I’ve now read through Town Meeting Time: a Handbook of Parliamentary Law, a book so tough to get that even Amazon doesn’t carry it. (The Charlton Public Library does, however.)
If news reports tonight and tomorrow confirm nobody is officially on the ballot running for Charlton Town Moderator, I’ll likely officially announce my candidacy as a write-in candidate to the press (or at least to the Charlton Gazette for inclusion in their April candidate profiles).
If memory serves, the primary function of a Town Moderator is to lead and enforce the order of town meetings. Seems like there might be a reason nobody wants the job. On the plus side, its a good week to be running a write-in campaign.
Yes, but although people may get quite excited about their positions, they probably won’t cause chaos too often. If they do, I’ll just have them confined or something.
And if there’s nobody else running, there’s a good chance that my campaigning can be minimal. I’ll probably just need to get more votes than Mickey Mouse.

I like the “confine him in some convenient place” part of that law. I wonder what inspired that wording.
If the offender is small in stature, and a number of burly townsfolk are about, the rafters of the auditorium are very convenient.
