Magic

Life Update

Peter Cooper Jr.

The house is continuing to come along, slowly but surely. The carpets are in, the wood floors are being finished, and the appliances should be arriving early next week. This weekend, we’ll be moving in many things from my parents’ garage. Some things will probably be in their actual location, but many things will likely end up being in our garage.

Also this weekend is Charlton Baptist Church’s Free Market. Jessi and I will be helping out there. Stop by there in the morning, say hello, and pick up something free.

A Magic Weekend

Peter Cooper Jr.

On Saturday, we went to the North American Challenge finals at Milford, which Jessi had qualified for on Wednesday. Luckily, they took me on as a judge that day so I had something to do there. Jessi didn’t fare so well, unfortunately. They had brought in Sheldon Menery, a level 5 (“Professional level”) judge from the Maryland/Virginia area, as the Head Judge. We were ridiculously overstaffed, as there were 8 of us for a 90 player tournament, but that helped everything go relatively smoothly.

Life Update

Last night, I tried to run a Magic NAC Qualifier, but we only had 5 people. (The minimum for running a sanctioned tournament is 8). That was rather disappointing, especially since we managed to have 11 last time. So, we had an informal unsanctioned booster draft instead. Jessi came in first place and I came in last place.

They were supposed to finish plastering our house today, although I haven’t actually inspected it to ensure that they did. I think the critical path is just waiting on the phone company to put in poles for us. Hopefully, we’ll be in the house within a few weeks.

Life Update

Last weekend, Jessi & I went to Camden, NY to visit Jessi’s relatives for the fourth of July.

There’s not much news on the house. We’re still waiting for the power poles.

Coming up on Tuesday, I’ll be judging Card Stop’s second qualifier tournament for the Magic North American Challenge. Hopefully, starting next week we’ll also have Friday Night Magic there.

Quote of the Day

“You know, if it weren’t for the rules, you might be winning by now.” — Jessi, to the player who ended up taking second place at the tournament I ran last night.

Interesting Turns of Events

Peter Cooper Jr.

It turns out that there are some places that the town clerk didn’t search before, and in 1955, Charlton Town Meeting discontinued Berry Corner Rd., from Ayers Rd. to the Sturbridge town line, from being a town road. Had we discovered this much earlier in the process, this all would have been much more difficult. However, finding it now, they can’t retroactively revoke our right to build, and it’ll be easier to get telephone poles put in because they’ll just need permission from us, and not from the town. So I guess things are going alright with it, it’s just… odd.

Upcoming plans

Peter Cooper Jr.

Tonight, I’m running another Standard Constructed Magic tournament at Card Stop.

Friday, I get to join millions of Americans by acquiring oodles of debt! We’re doing the closing on our mortgage.

Over the next couple weeks, we’re having various people over for meals, and occasionally going to someone else’s place for a meal. You may be able to be one of those people if you contact us.

April 1st through the 3rd is SFS Gaming Weekend, which I’m looking forward to. I’m also planning on running another tournament there.
