Going to a Bowling Tournament

On Nov. 17, Jessi and I will be playing in a Bowling “Tournament” fundraiser at Bogey Lanes for WYCM, the local Christian music radio station. The theory is that we each bowl three strings of bowling, and people sponsor us per pin how much to give as a donation to the radio station.

I expect it to be a lot of fun, although neither Jessi nor I are particularly good at bowling.

If you’re interesting in helping out by sponsoring us, please email me. Thanks.

What I did last weekend

On Saturday I was the head judge of Magic Regionals in Hartford. We had 189 players, and despite some mishaps that made things take longer than I’d like that probably weren’t avoidable, it worked out alright, and was a good experience for me.

On Sunday I went bowling with my family, and it was a lot of fun. After playing bowling on the Wii more and more and doing pretty good at it, I wanted to go out and play some “real” (that is, candlepin non-virtual) bowling. It was enough fun that it may be something my wife and I do more often.

Bowling is fun

After getting more comments than I ever dreamed possible when posting something controversial, I think I will now post something slightly less controversial: Bowling is fun.

I took Jessi, Ben, and Cheri bowling Sunday afternoon. Jessi, having grown up in New York and thus outside of New England proper, had never seen Candlepin Bowling before, so we had to introduce her. Plus, it seemed like a fun activity for us all.

We played two games, and the scores were quite close in both of them. For the second game, we had the kiddie rails up that prevent balls from going in the gutter, so our scores where higher, but very very close to each other.

Ben won the first game, and Jessi won the second game, but it was quite close and a lot of fun. Perhaps we will do it again sometime. And now Jessi has been indoctrinated into the ways of New Englanders.
