Public funds for private roads

Residents of private roads, which have been open to public use for six or more years, may now petition selectmen to provide temporary repairs such as filling holes, oiling surfaces, resurfacing and drainage installation. Voters at the May town meeting approved the new practice of using public funds to repair private roads if 51 percent of the landowners abutting the road sign a petition for repair. Last week, selectmen approved the new petition form and decided each petition will be valid for three fiscal years. The new practice is pending approval by the state attorney general for action taken at town meeting, after which, residents may obtain petition forms from the town administrator’s office.

Land ho!

The land across the “street” from us is for sale. It has a completed perc test and septic plans.

I’m not quite sure how I feel about it. I almost want to buy it just to keep anyone from building there, but that seems kind of silly and selfish.

Bizarre event of the day

Just now, my monitor froze.

It was in power-save mode, as the computer was off, but when I turned the computer on, the monitor did not wake up.

The power LED was amber, and the selected-input 1 LED was green. But none of the buttons on it did anything. Including the power button. (I pressed the power button and the monitor stayed on.)

I unplugged the monitor and plugged it back in to restore normal operation.

An update to my thoughts on marriage

My thoughts on marriage (and homosexual “marriage” in particular) have
changed a little bit over the time since it became “legalized”, so I
figured I’d share a bit about my current thinking. If you aren’t
interested in my thoughts on the topic, feel free to stop reading. I’m
likely to ramble some a bit, anyway.

Cell Phone Ponderings

Now that I’m traveling to more and more events, the utility of a cell phone is becoming more and more apparent. I’ve been staying away from them since they don’t work anywhere near my house, but perhaps they’d be useful when away from home. But, it’d be used rarely, so I’m thinking that perhaps some prepaid plan may work best. (Our home phone line usage averages 150 minutes a month, and this is likely to be used much less than that.) Just wondering if people have recommendations or suggestions.

Email vs. Gmail

Yesterday, our young adult bible study group was meeting, and I remember there was some discussion that it may have been at a different place than normal. Shortly before going, I dug through my email (where the discussion took place) but couldn’t authoritatively determine what consensus as to a location had been reached. So, I ended up calling the location where it usually was to determine that it had, in fact, been moved.
