Grammatical annoyance of the day

In addition to the prevalence of “it’s” being used when “its” is meant, I’m seeing more and more things like “our’s” for “ours”. That is, the problem seems to be getting worse instead of better. Although perhaps it’s at least becoming consistent.

  1. It has always been consistent. Possessive pronouns do not have apostrophes:
    its n/a
    his his
    her hers
    my mine
    your yours
    their theirs
    not one apostrophe.

    But contractions (he’s, she’s, it’s, they’re, we’re, I’m, you’re) all have apostrophes.
