Why isn’t there an option to show the trail of your mouse cursor in Windows anymore?

My copy of XP has that under pointer options in the mouse control panel.
I think their destiny was tied to the passive matrix display.

In that case, my question is, “Why did they take it out in Windows 2000 and put it back in Windows XP?”
Probably it was another case of somebody at Microsoft saying “How can we stop being called Bloatware by dropping unused features?” in Windows 2000, and then getting consumer backlash to put it back in.
I can’t picture “consumer backlash” over that feature, somehow.
I think you’d be surprised what consumers outside the techie-community care about.
If that’s what Microsoft cared about, though, they would never have removed the network play from Microsoft Hearts…
